 New InfiniSource Server Online!

by Arie Slob

Dear Windows-Help.NET Subscriber,

Well, after some initial problems getting all our files moved over to our new Web server, we're happy to report we are up and running!

For those of you interested in the specs:
We're running a dedicated server, a Pentium III/500MHz - 256MB RAM, with a 9GB SCSI drive. This box is running Red Hat Linux, and the Web server is Apache.

We have our server hosted at one of the top hosts, digitalNATION. What makes this company so much better than our previous host is their Network Connectivity. Their bandwidth is tremendous! We hope (and are almost 100% sure), that our Web site will be much faster to download for you than it has been over the past 6 months. We're certainly excited about that!

If you'd like more information on hosting your Web site with digitalNATION, you can contact Steve Beckmeier.

digitalNATION has NT-, Sun-, Linux and Cobalt servers. Prices start from $230 a month (all dedicated servers).

Web site visitor survey

If you have a minute or two, I'd like to ask you to participate in our brief Web site visitor survey.

These questions will help us gain a better understanding about our site visitors in general. Your input will be completely anonymous. Please answer as many questions as you feel comfortable with.

When you fill out the survey, you will be taken to the results page where you can see how your personal statistics stack up against other visitors to this site. We think you will find that extremely interesting. Please answer all questions truthfully as your anonymous responses will become a permanent part of our site statistics.

These kind of statistics are an important tool when seeking advertising sponsors, and advertisers keep our site funded, and FREE for you!

  Microsoft Security

Patch Available for "VM File Reading" Vulnerability

Microsoft has released a patch that eliminates a security vulnerability in the Microsoft® virtual machine (Microsoft VM). The vulnerability could enable a malicious web site operator to read files from the computer of a person who visited his site or read web content from inside an Intranet if the malicious site is visited by a computer from within that Intranet. In both cases the malicious applet would have to know the exact name and location of the files.

Affected Software Versions

Versions of the Microsoft VM are identified by build numbers, which can be determined using the JVIEW tool, as discussed in the FAQ. The following builds of the Microsoft VM are affected:

  • All builds in the 2000 series
  • All builds in the 3100 series
  • All builds in the 3200 series
